  I never paid too much attn to the overlapping generations thing til I left funnily enough. At the time I didn't get it but figured out it would sink in eventually...and it did when I left. No one thing caused me to leave, although my Jw friend at my current work insists that one thing must have stumbled me...ah, if only life were that simple! May there be reams and reams of crap which builds up around the org until everyone leaves it!

  There's gonna b a new book n dvd. It was mentioned in another thread. How loving of the brothers to provide such wonderful food at the proper time! You can really see how Jehovah is blessing the work and He's really speeding it up! This must be the last big push before the end!

  howdy all!.

  whilst perusing some mags from 1887 (as you do) i stumbled upon this article slagging off the 'protestant papacy' as they called it.. it may have been posted before, but it was new to me (as, increasingly is a lot of stuff) so i thought i'd share... i've emboldened some areas of interest, it shows (to me) a good attitude back then.. see anything familiar with our day in there?.

  Notice how cheap the pictures look. They've been favouring that water colour style for awhile, but modern and appealing publications ie non Jw ones are shiny and bright, not in lovely pastel water colours like these. It's like they don't want people to be interested.

  British zone visit from David Splane - a report from the special meeting in Glasgow

  well i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.

  apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.

  there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.

  I suppose they would, but I gotta give it to the JWs that they take the initiative in looking for converts. If the churches in decline went door to door, maybe they'd be able to rope in some more suckers too.

  Loaded Language Word of the day : SPIRITUALITY

  this is really becoming one of my biggest pet peeves.

  jws use the word spiritual to describe anyone who goes out in service weekly, holds a congregation position, has privledges, in good standing etc, meanwhile this person can be rude, manipulating, or just plain evil and jws will gush about how spiritual they are.

  on the other hand you can have someone sincerely trying to be christlike, manifesting good qualities and kind, helping others out, but if they dont have privleges, pioneer, ms, elder, or dosent comment at the kh, or does not attend enough, that person is not "spiritual" to a jw!

  All those works they point to as evidence of spirituality are evidence of religiousness instead. Doing a whole bunch of things like that doesn't make you spiritual, it makes you religious. Spirituality is about bettering yourself and helping others and being in touch with the divine, whether it's thru Jesus or Buddha or just that feeling you get from seeing a truly beautiful work of nature like a quiet beach. It means doing good in the world. Being religious means you do things that can be quantified like hours or comments or meeting attendances.

  i have just been reading a post "we had an easy exit from jw" by t.d joseph.

  the guy is obviously in india and so he says his brother was quite high up in the jw ranks.

  what i am wondering?
